A small gathering to honour the refugees! – Een kleine bijeenkomst om de vluchtelingen te eren!
Thema: ‘Positieve aandacht voor vluchtelingen’.
The 20th of June, “World Refugee Day”.
It is an international day which is designed by the United Nations to honor the strength and courage of refugees. And to encourage public awareness and support for them.
SAL (Stichting Africa Life) 2021 theme is, ‘Positive attention for Refugees’.
As we stand before the statue of the Hollow men to commemorate and remember the perished and forgotten refugees, their individual lives is no longer empty and not in vain. Our presence here today means that these were people like you and I, who deserves a second chance but didn’t get it.
While we remember and celebrate the lives of these beautiful people, l hope we remember that refugees issue is not a thing of the past but is one that is still with us.
According to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, Injustice, Poverty, inequality, conflict and violence are the reasons for coming together here today. Our world is in turmoil, and more than 25 million refugees are looking to us for solutions. With more than 71 million people uprooted from their homes globally.

World Refugee Day 2021 focuses on the power of inclusion. Given the chance, refugees will continue to contribute to a stronger, safer and more vibrant world.

Op zondag 20 juni om 14.00 uur houden we een kleine plechtigheid in de tuin van de Church of Our Saviour aan de Bezuidenhoutseweg 157 2594 AG Den Haag.
In deze tuin staat sinds april 2021 het beeld: The hollow men, ontworpen door de kunstenaar Linette Dijk.
Het beeld is een monument voor de omgekomen en vergeten vluchtelingen overal ter wereld.
We leggen een krans en reciteren het gedicht The hollow men van T.S. Eliot in het Engels en Nederland. Dit gedicht was de inspiratie voor de kunstenaar om tot dit beeld te komen.
Je bent welkom om ook iets te zeggen en/of om bloemen bij het beeld te leggen. Geen discussie programma.
Laat dit tevoren even weten.
We menen met dit alternatieve programma toch recht te doen aan de herdenking van de Dag van de Vluchtelingen aan iedereen de ruimte te geven er op haar/zijn eigen manier bij stil te staan.
